Showing off my new book "Getting Into Porn - The Handbook"
A first look at my new book "Getting Into Porn - The Handbook"
Thursday, November 18, 2010
My first book is available on Amazon.com
I'm officially a published author now. My book "Getting Into Porn - The Handbook" is AVAILABLE NOW in Kindle / Ipad format on Amazon.com (click here to purchase)
The book should be available in paperback on Amazon around December 1st - make sure when you purchase the paperback book, you purchase the "final edition" version (I found some editing errors that I missed in the first edition - hey no one's perfect).
I've already begun my next book "Getting Into Porn - The Journeys" so I'll keep you all posted :)

My first book Getting Into Porn - The Handbook is available
My first book - Getting Into Porn - The Handbook is now available for pre-sale as an E-book through www.GettingIntoPorn.com but will be available before the end of the month in paperback through Amazon.com
For about 2 years I offered much of the information within the book for free on www.GettingIntoPorn.com , but I decided to compile it all into an easy to read format (and I added a bit more to it) and turn it into an actual BOOK.
In the next coming months look for 2 more books from me:
Getting Into Porn - The Journey
(my personal accounts and experiences in the industry)
Getting Out of Porn - The Aftermath
(what really happens when you find yourself moving on)

"How Low Can I go?" - How pornstars may be paid in the NEAR future.
After you read this blog post - I suggest you visit another blog I recently wrote:
http://monicafoster.blogspot.com/2010/11/theres-no-such-thing-as-free.html (scroll towards the end to read the dialog between myself and Stephen of XbizWorld industry trade magazine)
Before entering the "porn industry" world of adult entertainment, I worked primarily as a webcam girl. I made a pretty good living at it. At that time of course being a webcam model wasn't as popular as an "adult industry career option" as it is currently (which I'm sure is one factor as to why I don't make nearly the amount of money as I did in the past) and even though I understand that "webcam model consumers" (my viewers), have many more options as to where to spend their dollars, up until recently the earning potential was still pretty good and fair.
Then websites such as www.MyFreeCams.com came along....
Now in the past, regardless of what webcam network you worked on, you essentially still could "set your own price" per minute as to how much money you were comfortable with making in a partial nude or nude live webcam session. Yes a few webcam networks (and now most) offered a free chat option for both members and guests but you were required to stay clothed (and often times you could opt out of the free chat).
The network you work through (if you chose to work through a network - a person always has to option to work independently, though you run a high risk of chargebacks and of course have far less "traffic") takes a fairly high percentage (usually around half - sometimes more, othertimes less) of what you earn - but it has been commonplace and expected.
With the entrance of websites like www.MyFreeCams.com into the "webcam girl marketplace" however - the way a webcam model earns money has DRAMATICALLY changed - and NOT for the BETTER (at least not for the webcam model).
Sites like www.MyFreeCams.com and others of the like have created a business model of which the power for the webcam model to "set her own price" has instead been placed into the hands of the customer (webcam model VIEWER). Rather than the model being able to restrict her partial or full nudity exclusively for private shows, she's virtually forced to perform consistently either partially or fully nude for free in hope of receiving "donations" from the viewers of her video feed.
There may be a few viewers who understand that the webcam model has to make a living, and they'll be "nice" and donate their "tokens" (money), but considering that generally there may be well over 100 viewers watching, usually less than 5% will actually "donate" money to the performer (and keep in mind the network takes half - if not more - of those donations from the model). Most viewers simply will enjoy the free show.
I understand that change in any marketplace in inevitable, however at this stage, with the www.MyFreeCams.com business model, the performer is being completely devalued, robbed and exploited.
Since realizing how websites such as www.MyFreeCams.com are virtually wiping out other webcam networks such as www.CamWorld.com and even www.CamModels.com I began to realize that this particular business model which essentially says "Have the customer pay what they FEEL like paying for a product IF they feel like paying for a product" could easily be applied to how a pornstar may be paid in the future by adult content studios.
Rather than a porn actor or actress being paid up front - lets say $700 for a basic boy-girl scene, maybe instead, the pornstar will be asked to shoot the scene, and then based on their performance in the scene, they will be paid however much the director "feels" like paying them. To take it a step further, maybe the pornstar will be asked to shoot the scene and then only receive payment based on what the audience who watches the scene FEELS the star should be paid (maybe a sort of rating system will be implemented).
This "I'll pay you what I feel like paying you AFTER I get my product" mentality could even trickle it's way into the legal and illegal prostitution market. "John's" AND pimps may come to an agreement of only paying the "provider" what they feel the encounter was worth, while the pimp receives a flat "introduction" fee regardless.
How you are paid as a porn talent in the future may wind up being the equivalent of how www.PriceLine.com was when it first launched.
Far fetched? Perhaps...but maybe not.
I probably entered the porn industry at the VERY END of the average performer receiving fairly decent compensation per scene. Adult scenes shot of which pornstars used to be offered $1200, have now lowered to a rate of $500 (if that).
If there's a willing talent pool that is willing to work for little to no money, why shouldn't the adult content studios exploit that?
Well I'll tell you why they shouldn't - because even though you can "get away with something" it doesn't mean you should do it.
At this stage I hope that there is some intervention in regards to stabilizing adult industry work wages, because before too long, the quality of the product won't only go down...it will disappear.
It might be a "dog eat dog" / "predator-prey" type world out there, but on the same token if the predator over eats it's food supply to the point of extinction, eventually the predator itself will starve and die.
Remember adult content (whether it be pre-recorded or live) consumers out there: There is no such thing as "Free". Free almost always is hurting someone else, and usually is giving someone (who doesn't deserve it) a very big pay day.
In early America, slaves were forced to work for free...and look at all the trouble that was caused when they got sick of it.

"Ageism" in porn - yep - over 24 is over the hill according to current porn standards
When I first entered the porn industry at the age of 29, I was amazed as to how often I was cast as a MILF (and I don't even have any kids) - once I was even cast as a cougar (yep - at 29 years old).
Well I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks that this trend is out of control and a bit "off" - I invite you all to read this interesting article by 28 year old porn veterin *she's been in the industry for 10 years), Aurora Snow on "Ageism in Porn".

How Montana Fishburne may have been convinced to do porn and work as a prostitute / escort.
Today I was searching online for more Montana Fishburne news, and I came across this video on Youtube - this is a video interview of Montana's best friend (possibly ex best friend) telling the interviewer (and us) about how Montana Fishburne was introduced to the porn industry (and possibly prostitution / escorting) and who was involved.
Very interesting and telling. Laurence Fishburne needs to contact his daughter and help her NOW!

Broadcasts about the porn industry from the week of July 25th, 2010
This week's Monica @ Home broadcasts have finally been posted to www.MonicaAtHome.com and www.youtube.com/MonicaAtHome.
Below is Friday night's broadcast of which I focus on the recent Montana Fishburne sex tape scandal and how Brian Pumper should have stayed away from this naive and obviously confused 19 year old woman.
Below is Thursday night's broadcast specifically geared towards teens, young adults and parents in regards to:
1)young people being honest with their parent's and/or loved ones about working in adult entertainment
2)signs that parents may want to look for if they suspect their young adult children are currently working in or considering working in the porn industry.
3)Signs of which your daughter's (and in some cases son's) boyfriend may be a pimp.
4) How if your son or daughter has gone missing in their late teens, it might be beneficial for your to check adult agency websites when searching for them.
On Monday's broadcast I primarily discuss how I feel the minimum age limit to work as a porn talent needs to be raised from 18 years old to 21 years old - I think the most recent events in regards to Laurence Fishburne's daughter Montana - prove my point.

Desi Foxx (Diana Grandmason) fights back against AIM and their policies on releasing patient records.
One thing that always bothered me personally in regards to AIM (the adult industry testing center which essentially has a monopoly on STD testing within the porn industry) is that ANYONE who is an adult content "producer" (in otherwords anyone who is willing to pay a fee to get access to the AIM talent pool database) - can look up my medical records.
I stopped performing in the adult talent pool around the beginning of 2009 - however ANYONE who pays around $200 to AIM can gain access to my medical records with them, my social security number, my real name, my address, etc.
This makes me very uncomfortable for many reasons, but especially for reasons concerning my safety (stalkers could easily find me if they wanted to). I personally feel that if you're not active in the talent pool for around 6 months, your records should be sealed or deleted.
Ex pornstar (adult actress) Desi Foxx, has decided to fight back against this issue - primarily because there have been real assholes in the industry who have posted her records and info on public forums. Check out the video below from ABC news covering the press conference about Grandmason's upcoming law suit against AIM:
Before entering the porn world, keep in mind, that you will NOT be totally anonymous. Many individuals that you work with both in front of AND behind the camera will attain your real name and personal information which they may choose to use against you at some point for a wide array of reasons.

Shelley Lubben wants to eradicate ALL porn
New blog posted on:
This is a very important read if you want to stop the possible end of adult entertainment, intolerance, prejudice and racism.
The fanatical Shelley Lubben of the Pink Cross wants to completely eradicate and eliminate ALL porn (hardcore, softcore, solo, erotica, live webcamming, etc) which would cripple MANY people's livelihoods - even little webcam girls/future adult and mainstream producers like me.
I will most likely be publicly discussing this with her on June 29th after the AHF meeting in Los Angeles, California - if you are an adult entertainment industry professional you may want to publicly discuss this with her as well.

2 pornstar murderers in the news in under 1 month
The past few weeks have definitely put the porn industry in the spotlight - but unfortunately in a rather negative light.
There have been 2 murders by porn talents in our country as of recent, one on the east coast (by a female) and one on the west coast (by a male).
A link to the story on the Tampa, Florida pornstar murderer Sunny Dae can be found by clicking here.
A link to the national news story on the Los Angeles (West Hills), California pornstar murderer Steven Hill can be found by clicking here.
It's amazing to me how these events have happened virtually back to back. I will share my thoughts on these stories on Monday's broadcast of www.MonicaAtHome.com which will be live on http://www.blogspot.com/People/MonicaFoster at 10pm EST / 1am PST

RESEARCH and CHECK REFERENCES of anyone you may work with in adult entertainment
http://pornstarbabylon.wordpress.com recently ran a story on adult actress, Clayra Beau, who unfortunately was mislead by someone (or possibly a group of people) posing as a legitimate adult talent agent, and lured to the east coast where she went through a virtual living nightmare of an experience.
To read about what happened to Clayra, visit Clayra Beau's blog here and here.
Let Clayra's story be a warning to you as a new talent, as to how IMPORTANT it is to research and check the references of any "professional" you choose to work with in the field of adult entertainment.

Working as a porn actress can be a lifelong career.
For the most part (at least as of current) working as a porn actress is a young girl's game - however if you're smart, business savvy and take care of yourself psychologically and physically you can turn being a porn actress into a lifelong career.
I personally have found that working as a hardcore porn actress for studios/labels (aside from my own in the future) isn't for me as I know I'm better suited to work behind the scenes. However I have to give major props to Nina Hartley - a porn industry veteran.
At 51 years old Harley is still going strong as an adult actress, director, sex expert and much more. I encourage you to read about her here on AVN.com:

Xplay Vs. La Direct Models - agents not informing their client about ALL their client's potential job opportunities
For those of you who are not up to date on your adult industry and porn news - 2 of the most powerful men in porn - Derek Hey of LA Direct Models and Will Ryder of X play are at odds in regards to LA Direct Models not allowing Xplay to book LA Direct Model's talent at below the "going rate" even if the talent herself agrees to the rate for the role.
